40+ Minimalist Web Designs
May 7th 2008
To start off my short series of articles on minimalist designs, I collected over 40 minimalist web designs to showcase what minimalist design looks like for those of you who are not familiar with it, and to provide inspiration for those of you who do. So, I present:
- Ninezero - Simple and Clean. It has an effective use of simple images.
- Seo Design Studio - Communicates effectively.
- Feelwire - Neat Javascript effect.
- SimpleBits - Clean use of short entries.
- Absenter - This is minimalist design.
- Studio Gecko Interactive - Incorporates illustrations well.
- Giant Creative - Looked more minimalist before the background change.
- Super Fresh - Only what is important.
- in8 Design - Images flow with the color scheme.
- Nils Windisch - Bold contrast.
- Six Apart - Borderline minimalist design.
- Creative And Live - Simple and clean, with usability in mind.
- IconShoppe - Colors work well (made by SimpleBits - See Above).
- Poccuo - Effective use of multiple columns.
- Davroc - The new gray.
- Authentic Style - Nice use of the color brown.
- Alpha Blog Designs - Neat background effect.
- Ijs Fontein - Has a minimalist flash header too.
- Kyle Sollenberger Design - Combines white and faint blue well.
- Sascha Eggenberger - A nice stray from the usual black on white minimalist designs.
- Bellingham Graphic Design and Web Development - Similar to Giantcreative’s design before the background change.
- Ale3006 - More neat background effects.
- Playground Blues - A simple 2 column layout.
- Beseku - Almost all text.
- NZ Venues - Effective navigation.
- Parade - The background is great, however I dislike the typographical style.
- Design Observer - Nice 2 Column layout, along with effective use of negative space and color.
- Bahia Studio - Very smooth-looking design.
- Profission - Shows minimalism can have style and class.
- Commented On - Uses noise in the header graphic well.
- Nokia Evolve - Effective color scheme.
- Design Intellection - Interesting CSS tricks.
- Seymour Powell - Fancy effects, however retains a minimalist design base.
- Tokyocube - Draws the eye to the focal point well.
- Chris Garrett - Nice gradient effect on the text. Also strays from the black on white minimalist designs.
- Satellites - Highly text based.
- Project15 - Neat color scheme.
- Designing The News - Bold headers for effective hierarchy.
- Meprinsa - Starts out with a minimalist design.
- 3by9 - Vivid red and blues.

I hope this either helps you understand minimalism better, or provides for an effective resource for inspiration. Feel free to leave your responses or additions.

My top four from this list would have to be Seo Design Studio, Absenter, Beseku, and Studio Gecko Interactive, as they are the four most minimalistic.
The one I prefer most would probably be Abesenter as it is true minimalism and it has a nice clean layout, however, at the cost of its navigation, which is difficult to use.

Great list, surprised that it doesn’t include http://www.astheria.com or http://www.shauninman.com both stellar examples of minimalism.

This site is a new version of a over complicated site that used to be there. Plain and simple. I am the same designer of http://www.seodesignstudio.com. Due to articles like this I have realized that this is is what people are looking for and enjoy looking at. Love the look of your site by the way.

I like the plain and simple approach. I cant stand website which make things over complicated. The basic approach draws a users eye to specific areas of the page rather than make everything harder to find

Do you know that ninezerodesign.com is a malicious site? Google AND Firefox say so. I’d take it off the list if I were you. It installs malicious software on your computer.

Keeping it simple with good use of high contrast elements really does help keep focus where you want that focus to help.
Use of white space creates a sense of balance from the clutter.
