Flash Games: The Importance of Intros

When someone first begins to play your game, usually the first thing they will see is your intro. Your intro is not only an outright promotion of your site or yourself, but it also is a first impression.

Many times, I begin to play a game, see that the author refuses to put time and effort into the intro. Most of the time, I stopped playing the game. The intro, if done well, can make the player more interested in the game.

Having just your link looks bad and fails to impress anybody, unless it has been done in a proffesional way. Having an well thought out animation incorporating your link impresses and draws players in.

You should try to avoid long intros because they can bore the player no matter how well they are done. Stick to having an intro around 15 seconds long at most and give the player an option of skipping it the second time they watch the intro.

Also make your intro fit into the design of the game. Avoid having your screen turn one colour so the intro will look nice, then switch colours so the game has a nice colour scheme.

Consider spending around 1-2 days working on your intro, as it could highly increase the interest in your game.

Impart me with your input.
